The Casey Lake occurrence is located on a gentle east-facing slope, approximately 700 metres southwest of Casey Lake.

The geology of the region consists of: 1) a Mississippian to Triassic Cache Creek Group oceanic volcanic and sedimentary assemblage; 2) the Upper Triassic dominantly mafic volcanic Takla Group; 3) mafic to felsic volcanic and sedimentary rocks of the the Lower to Middle Jurassic Hazelton Group; 4) sedimentary and volcanic rocks of the Upper Cretaceous to Lower Neogene Ootsa Lake Group and 5) the Oligocene and Miocene Endako Group. The region has been intruded by the Lower Jurassic quartz monzonite to granodiorite Topley Intrusive Suite, Upper Jurassic plutons of the Francois Lake suite and plugs and stocks related to Upper Cretaceous and Neogene volcanism.

Locally, quartz monzonite and aplite dikes with argillic and lesser potassic alteration patterns host quartz veins with disseminated and fracture-filling molybdenite mineralization.

Work History

The area has been explored in conjunction with the nearby Endako (MINFILE 093K 006) mine and a complete regional exploration history can be found there.

In 2006, Thomson Creek Mining Ltd. completed 32 diamond drill holes, totalling 5143.3 metres, on areas west and north of the Denak West (MINFILE 093K 008) pit, on the Endako East (MINFILEs 093K 007 and 014) zone and near Casey Lake. Drilling south of Casey Lake yielded intercepts of up to 0.084 per cent molybdenite over 129 metres, including 0.193 per cent molybdenum over 9 metres, in hole 06-32 (Assessment Report 28684).

In 2007, Thomson Creek Mining Ltd. completed 66 drillholes, totalling 10 926 metres, on the Endako property; 33 holes were completed on the Casey Lake area, 17 on the Denak (MINFILE 093K 008) occurrence area, 6 on the Endako (MINFILE 093K 006) occurrence area, and 10 for condemnation drilling. The results of this work are unknown.

In 2018, Thompson Creek Metals Co. Inc. completed a 17.5 line-kilometre induced polarization survey on several areas of the Endako property including the area of the Casey Lake occurrence.
